Introduction

Welcome to The Media Guide to Islam: A Journalist’s Guide to Covering Islam. This site is developed for journalists, by journalists with the aim of helping ensure accuracy when covering Islam and Muslims in the United States.

Sept. 11, 2001 dramatically changed coverage of Islam and Muslims in the U.S. This site provides necessary background and basic information about Islam in the U. S. as a religion, and as a cultural, social and political structure.

The site is intended for journalists looking for a primer on Islam and Muslims living in the U.S. Each section provides straightforward information for anyone on deadline, and many of the sections have links, additional readings, resources and experts.
While the site is not intended for foreign correspondents or journalists covering the Middle East conflict, reporters and editors covering those beats may find the content valuable.
