As a result of these admonitions of mutual respect, Muslims tend to respect elders in general. There are few nursing homes in the Muslim world. Elderly parents usually move in with one of their children before they become unable to take care of themselves. Extended families are also important, usually providing an important social support network that can be counted on in times of need.
